The honest answer is that it helps with one kind of motion and not with the other, and that the catamarans on this route come with a separate trade-off that has nothing to do with the sea.

What two hulls actually do

A catamaran’s stability comes from its beam. Two hulls set wide apart resist rolling — the side-to-side motion a monohull makes when a sea comes at it from the beam — far better than a single hull does. Neither catamaran on this route runs a beach house on Klein Curaçao.

That is a coincidence of who owns what rather than anything about hulls, but it holds.
