Best Time to Visit Curaçao for Beaches, Snorkelling & Boat Trips

Curaçao is warm all year, so the month matters mostly for rain, wind and crowds. Month-by-month weather from the island's Meteorological Department, the quieter months, and when the sea is calmest for boats.

Updated October 2026

You can visit Curaçao in any month: the average high stays between 30°C and 33°C (86°F to 91°F) all year, and the beaches and boats never close for a season. For most trips, April to June is the best balance. Those months average two to four days with rain each, the sea is warmer than it is in February and March, and May and June draw fewer visitors than January to March. Whatever month you choose, book the Klein Curaçao full-day boat trip ($155, 4.8/5 from 361 reviews) for early in your stay, because each boat sails once a day and stays in port when the sea is too rough.

The whole island gets about 570 mm of rain in an average year, which is very little for the Caribbean. Three things in the table matter for your plans:

  • Rain falls mostly from October to January. November is the wettest month, with about 141 mm on 11 days. You will still get beach days then, but plan an indoor back-up for Willemstad.
  • The heat barely changes. September is the hottest month by a degree or two, and January the mildest. Pack the same clothes in any month.
  • The wind is lightest in October and November. It averages 11 to 13 knots from December to August and drops below 10 knots in those two months. A lighter wind means flatter water on the boat trips, which is what you notice on the open-sea run to Klein Curaçao.

Best overall period: April to June

April, May and June combine the dry season with warm water and fewer visitors than the winter peak.

  • Dry: each of the three months averages 16 to 22 mm of rain and two to four days with rain.
  • Warm sea: the water around Curaçao is coolest in February and March, at about 25.9°C (79°F), and warms from April towards its peak of about 28.2°C (83°F) in September and October.
  • Fewer visitors: the Curaçao Tourist Board counted 58,995 overnight visitors in May 2025 and 57,412 in June, against 73,289 in January and 72,474 in March.

The trade-off is wind. May and June are the two windiest months of the year on average, so the morning crossing to Klein Curaçao is at its bumpiest then. The west coast beaches face away from the wind and stay calm. If you get seasick and Klein Curaçao is the main reason for your trip, October and November give you lighter wind in exchange for more showers.

Driest period: February to June

From February to June, every month averages less than 25 mm of rain and no more than five days with rain. March, April and May are the driest, with two or three days of rain each. The Meteorological Department counts February to May as the dry season and October to January as the rainy season, and calls July to September transitional. June’s rainfall is close to the dry-season months.

Hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, and storm activity in the Atlantic peaks from August to October. Curaçao sits on the southern edge of the hurricane zone: according to the Meteorological Department, no hurricane or tropical storm has ever made direct landfall on the island, and a tropical storm passes within 100 nautical miles about once every 11 years on average. In those months, check the forecast in the week before your boat trip and take travel insurance that covers delays, as you would anywhere in the Caribbean.

Quieter periods: May, June and September

Curaçao is busiest from January to March, when visitors escape the northern winter. July is busy again with the summer holidays. The Curaçao Tourist Board’s 2025 counts of overnight visitors show the pattern:

Month (2025)Overnight visitors
January73,289
February69,603
March72,474
May58,995
June57,412
July66,956
Augustabout 60,000
September53,671

September had the fewest visitors of any month the board has published for 2025. May, June and September are the months to pick if you want an easier time booking a Klein Curaçao boat at short notice and more room on the beaches. September is also the hottest month and the start of the wetter part of the year, so May and June are the safer choice for weather.

Snorkelling through the year

You can snorkel in Curaçao in any month, without a wetsuit. The sea stays between about 26°C and 28°C (79°F to 83°F) all year.

The best beach snorkelling is on the west coast, on the side of the island sheltered from the trade wind, so beaches such as Playa Lagun, Grote Knip and Playa Piskadó stay calm through the windier months. The month matters more for the spots you reach by boat, where a lighter wind means flatter water. October and November have the lightest average wind of the year, which helps on the snorkel boats, but they are also the wettest months. April to June is the better all-round choice: dry, with warm water, and the wind only matters on the exposed spots.

Boat trips through the year

Every boat trip on our list runs all year. Only the sea on the day changes.

  • Klein Curaçao day trips sail once a day, sell out in high season and stay in port on rough days. Book one for early in your stay, so you have spare days if your sailing is cancelled.
  • Half-day trips such as the snorkel cruise with barbecue lunch ($100) stay in sheltered water along the south coast, so they are the better choice on a windy day.
  • Sunset cruises follow the sun: it sets at about 6:10 p.m. in November and about 7:05 p.m. in July. Our Curaçao sunset cruises guide compares the evening sails.

Klein Curaçao: daily sea conditions matter more than the month

On a Klein Curaçao trip, the wind on the day matters more than the month. The morning crossing heads into the trade wind, and the return runs with it, in every month. The lighter average wind in October and November helps, but a calm day in March can beat a windy one in October, so look at the forecast for your day rather than choosing a month for it. Our best time to visit Klein Curaçao guide covers the crossing, the crowds and how to book around the weather.

Which month to book

  • For the driest beach weather: March, April or May.
  • For dry weather with fewer visitors: May or June.
  • For the calmest sea on boat trips: October or November, if you can live with more showers.
  • For the warmest water: September or October.

Once you have chosen your dates, book the Klein Curaçao trip for one of your first days, because a cancelled sailing can then move to another day of your stay.
